5 Wrong Beliefs and How to Refute Them
Jesus had a habit of saying "You've heard it said... but I tell you." He wasn't being controversial for the sake of it. He was correcting beliefs that people had carried for years, beliefs they assumed were right because that's what they'd always been taught. On Sunday, Pastor Tiffany picked up that same thread and brought it straight to Dabwetamun.
Her starting point was 1 Timothy 4:1, a warning that in the last days people will walk away from the faith. Not because they stopped believing, but because they believed the wrong things. That distinction matters. What you believe about God shapes everything, how you pray, how you handle sickness, how you respond when life gets hard. Wrong doctrine doesn't just confuse you. It limits what God can do in your life.
The first belief she challenged: that God picks and chooses who gets saved. She went to 2 Peter 3:9, "God is not willing that any should perish," and 1 Timothy 2:4, "God wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth." Salvation isn't selective. God extended it to the whole world. Every person gets to decide for themselves whether they receive it.
The second one hit even harder: that God picks and chooses who He heals. Pastor Tiffany read Isaiah 53:4–5 plainly, written centuries before Jesus walked the earth, "He himself bore our sicknesses, and we are healed by his stripes." She connected it to Acts 10:38, where Jesus "went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed by the devil." Not some. All. The service moved into an extended time of prayer after that, and the presence of God was strong in the room. People were touched. It looked a lot like the meetings you read about in the Gospels.
"God is not mysterious. He put His personality in a book and gave it to you so you could find out about Him. You don't have to guess what He wants. Just read it and believe it. And don't just believe it works for others. Believe it works for you."
The Bible is God's word to you personally. Pick it up, read what it says about your salvation and your healing, and start believing it for yourself.
